Jerrings Hall Farm, Solihull

CMS Architects recently worked on the renovation of a set of farm buildings in Solihull into a new school facility for alternative education provider The Island Project. Starting on site in August 2023, the project reached completion in April 2024.

With the site acquired by High Speed 2, the new railway line would have run too close to the existing school’s playground, which would have disturbed the school’s children. To create the right environment for them and sufficient distance from the HS2 line, the decision was made to convert the farm buildings into a new site for the school.

The site consists of four buildings, three of which were renovated during this project. One of the renovated buildings was listed which posed additional challenges, successfully overcome so as to transform the building into a functional admin space for staff use.

Two new modular buildings with SIPS panels, the Lodge and the Gatehouse, were also constructed as part of the works to provide additional teaching facilities.
