CMS Architects provided full construction information, detailing and construction phase support for the creation of a new multi-purpose hall, kitchen, classrooms and ancillary areas, replacing two extremely tired 1950’s temporary buildings.

The project also involved major external landscaping works, the creation of various ecological habitats and the construction of a separate straw bale building. Initial enabling works included provision of modular classrooms and temporary site access through an adjacent field with a 1km temporary road and bridge.

Batheaston Primary School is a Green Flag awarded primary school and part of the international Eco-Schools programme, which guides educational establishments towards sustainability by working green principles into the running of the school. This formed a major consideration in the design development. The site was also situated in a conservation area and shared its grounds with the original listed school building, making sustainability considerations even more vital.

The project was delivered on time and to budget in a live environment whilst the school was operational over 14 months, and received recognition from Bath & North East Somerset Council building awards.
