The addition of a mezzanine floor within a grade 2 listed Victorian school to create a new classroom and re-position the reception to a more central location within the school.
This created a much more usable space for the Head Teacher’s office and created an additional teaching area with the old reception.
The scheme restored the existing features of the building by removing the suspended ceiling thus exposing the timber trusses and creating a large full height entrance hall giving a grand arrival befitting of a Victorian school.
In the new classroom, the trusses are exposed adding to the character of the space. Glass fronted light wells created over the windows allows light into the classroom without effecting the external appearance of the building.
