Chapel Cottage, Lacock
Chapel Cottage was a private residence on the outskirts of Lacock, a National Trust village in the heart of Wiltshire. At the time of purchase the old chapel had been empty for a number of years and it was in a poor state of repair. Our interior designer, Emily, oversaw the considerable renovations to create a beautiful, classic cottage family home.
Works undertaken included structural renovations, electrical and plumbing plus considerable groundworks. Two small rooms were opened up to create a bright and spacious kitchen area, with the development of an outbuilding to form a cloakroom and utility room. Due to the age of the property the remainder of the ground floor required levelling; stone slabs were replaced with Karndean and Sisal carpets and the (barely) existing staircase was refurbished.
The first floor renovations were considerable, due to extensive water damage from a severely damaged roof which also made the only working bathroom in the property unusable. Both bathrooms were swiftly renovated in a simple neutral palette to include traditional encaustic tiles combined with modern mosaics in the custom designed shower and modern metro-style tiles in the family bathroom.
Whilst the works to Chapel Cottage were extensive and time consuming, the complete renovation was completed within budget.
