CMS Architects were engaged by Crest Nicholson to provide architectural services and prepare full construction information, RIBA Stage 4, for the initial phases of this resulting award winning redevelopment project.

Icon is a unique development of 400 new homes on the former site of the Clarks Shoe Factory in the Somerset village of Street. Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Grant Associates designed the masterplan for this 10 hectare site with Crest Nicholson one among other developers progressing the individual phases totalling a project value of in excess of £50 million.

CMS Architects team of highly skilled individuals worked closely with the developer client to interpret the planning approval and progress detailed drawings and specifications which maintained the design quality and intent whilst being cost and programme efficient, buildable and meet the highest standards of sustainability and regulations. The project was extremely challenging with the client focused on value and efficiencies which was achieved by close collaboration within the team and supply chain partners without any detriment to the resulting end product.

The development has been recognised by CABE Building for Life Standards Gold Award, Housing Awards Overall Winner, Landscape Institute Awards and Civic Trusts Awards Commendation.
