Holbrook Primary School

Construction of a new build six-classroom block including a group room and office, as well as some minor refurbishment to the existing school building and construction of a new reception playground.

The new classroom block replaced 3no. mobile classroom blocks which required upgrading and was delivered on budget and to the agreed programme. Built using a traditional form of construction, the project achieved carbon net zero in use through innovative design methods, installation of solar PV, insulation, and natural ventilation.

Significant economic benefits from replacing the previous mobile classrooms which required a lot of maintenance and were expensive to heat and to run. The new building is much more cost-effective with excellent acoustic and thermal performance, the space designed in line with the latest Building Bulletin guidelines (BB93 and BB101).

As well as the benefit of enhanced classroom space, newly constructed external surfaces provided a new multi-use games area (MUGA) and a new activity trail around the playground. The introduction of bird boxes in outdoor areas also contributed to improved biodiversity and added interest for pupils.
