CMS were appointed to reorganise cramped school facilities for a primary school including a new mezzanine level above the existing classroom.

In order to continue providing an important local service the school needed to be updated in one major area – administration. The ratio of support areas to teaching and activity areas is significantly lower than required in a school of this nature.

The school has made creative use of all sorts of spaces within the confines of the existing envelope, both for administration and teaching areas. By installing a simple mezzanine floor accessed via two public areas (thus not impacting on the existing volumes of the classrooms) which runs over the largest classroom the head teacher’s office, meeting rooms and staff room were moved upstairs creating sufficient admin space within the school.

Neston Primary School was shortlisted at the LABC Awards as Best Educational Building 2015.
