Oswestry Campus

CMS recently completed a refurbishment project at Oswestry Campus, part of North Shropshire College. The project involved several phases, refurbing three separate areas to create new and improved teaching facilities, the requirements for which resulted from changes to the curriculum.

The college firstly wanted to create a set of plumbing and electrical workshop classrooms, which required full fit out and extensive M&E installation. The building was knocked down internally and fitted with new floors, walls and ceilings, as well as some external works taking place.

A further development was refurbishing one of the college’s computer blocks into a new science lab, which also required M&E installation for extraction and fire suppression purposes.

Finally, a new health and beauty centre was developed for the dual purposes of serving as a teaching facility and business premises. What started as quite a dilapidated building was transformed into a stunning new centre, which now attracts visitors at weekends and offers students the opportunity to offer their services externally.

The building was externally cladded with new timber cladding and fitted with new doors, aluminium windows, and new roofs. A new internal partition layout was created and full fit out completed with all necessary equipment.

This phase was particularly challenging as the project requirements were evolving continuously, eventually amounting to over 100 variations. Yet despite this, the project was successfully completed and is proving a great investment for the college.
