Wadswick Green

MS were engaged to provide architectural services for the construction of Wadswick Green Retirement Village, consisting of clusters of courtyard apartments built around wellbeing and social facilities. We conducted pre-planning consultation, secured full planning permission and proceeded to manage the construction process from RIBA Stages 2-6.

This complex, large-scale project involved creation of 260 accommodation units comprising 36 care bedrooms and 221 linked assisted living units at the site of the former MoD Naval College, HMS Royal Arthur Park. Also developed on the site were associated central facilities including a wellness centre, GP surgery, swimming pool, restaurant, hairdressers, library, shops and comprehensive care support facilities, all located within an existing mature parkland setting.

The site was located close to Box Mine Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), an important underground roosting site for bats, and the Bath and Bradford-on-Avon Bats Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Extensive pre-application consultation was thus held between Applied Ecology Ltd, the County Ecologist and Natural England to agree the scope of ecological assessment required to support a planning application.
