After completion in 2020 at the height of the pandemic, Snapdragons Nursery is now thriving with activity and full of happy children.
Back in 2016, we were tasked to undertake feasibility studies for a new-build nursery project on a 1-acre site located in Cribbs Causeway. Progression of the design proposals followed, eventually leading to a successful planning approval in June 2019.
Work on the new nursery was completed in October 2020. The pandemic unfortunately impacted the opening and welcoming of the new users, but with life now closer to normality, the nursery is proving a great success!

The 150-place Snapdragons Nursery was built to a budget, whilst the design and close working relationship with the contractor ensured no compromise was evident on sustainability and the internal environments created for the users.
The building is incredibly light and airy with tall central corridor spaces which promote natural ventilation and flood the building with light. It was designed to have a very natural feel and ensure the maximum amount of day light possible to create a comfortable environment for all.
The building fabric was designed to achieve a high thermal performance and a large amount of solar panels were installed on the roof, in turn reducing energy usage. The external works also included a sustainable urban drainage solution to help control storm water.

The nursery has a large outdoor space, which is now fitted with wooden playground equipment, continuing the natural theme that runs throughout the build.
The varied features continue internally with large classroom spaces, fully fitted catering facilities and even a children’s kitchen providing opportunities for cooking and baking. Lots of educational fun to be had!
It’s great to see this building in use by a growing number of staff and pupils. We hope it continues to be utilised and enjoyed to its fullest for many years to come!
